OUR COMMUNITY

Whether its planting trees on a river bank to help stop erosion or sponsoring a national health campaign, community and whānau are an important part of life at Miraka.

PŌWHIRI TO WELCOME NEW STAFF AND FARMERS

Each year we hold a formal powhiri at our local marae to welcome new staff, business partners and farmers (and their families) to Miraka. It's a special occasion during which we get to know one another properly, right from the start.

SUPPORTING

EDUCATION

We support early childhood learning and have sponsored the Country Kidz annual Matariki Ball.  Country Kidz is based at Mokai, north-west of Taupō, and is a short distance down the road from our plant.

SUPPORTING THE ENVIRONMENT

Greening Taupō is an active community group of volunteers who regularly organise community planting days in the Taupō area. We regularly attend, sending a squad of staff for the day to help plant native shrubs. We also sponsor morning tea at the event which is attended by school children and the general public.

SUPPORTING

EMPLOYMENT AND CAREERS

We’re often looking for new people to join our team.  We take part in local career expos and offer mechanical and engineering apprenticeships (and internships from time to time.  We also support the career development of our staff by investing in their professional development.

SUPPORTING

WOMENS HEALTH

Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancer forms in women - wahine Maori especially. We have twice provided sponsorship to the support the work of the Smear your Mea Trust which promotes awareness around cervical cancer and early screening to detect it.

SUPPORTING

MĀORI BUSINESS

As a Māori owned business and producer of quality kai / food products, we support events which showcase the best of Māori F&B. Our products have featured as part of the menu of the prestigious Tohunga Tumau dinner which is held during Matariki, the Māori New Year.

FARMER EVENTS

We support events run by trusts and organisations which support farming and the wider NZ community. Meat the Need is one such trust we have partnered with to supply UHT milk to help those in need.

WHAT WE DO IN  OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

We get out on-farm as often as we can to stay connected with our farmer suppliers. Relationships are at the heart of our business - staying in touch with our farmers is paramount.

SUPPORTING OUR FARMERS

We bring our farming community together each year for our annual conference to hear from industry leaders and experts in agriculture and dairy farming.

The annual Miraka Suppliers' Dinner is always a popular highlight on the social calendar. During the evening we hear from a noted guest speaker, celebrate our Te Ara Miraka farming excellence winders and enjoy entertainment.

We provide regular fortnightly updates to our farmers, host training events and workshops, organise fieldays and convene face-to-face supplier meetings twice annually.
