The protection of the environment is of paramount importance to Miraka. In keeping with the vision of ‘nurturing our world’, principles of sustainability are incorporated into all our business decisions to ensure a more efficient operation.
Our commitment to the guardianship of the environment starts at the Mokai valley with the use of renewable energy from nearby geothermal steam fields; the processing of dairy by-products through vermiculture within the valley; and the water extracted from the milk that is irrigated onto farms adjacent to the factory.
Applying sustainable practices beyond Mokai is also important to ensure our whole supply chain leaves the most minimal impact on our world as possible. This is critical to the role of Miraka as kaitiaki (guardians) of our natural resources. Miraka is a signatory to the Sustainable Dairying: Water Accord. This accord is a commitment to New Zealand and the world to enhance the overall performance of dairy farming and its affect on freshwater through continuous improvements and partnership.
