Miraka has taken out the supreme award at the Ministry for Primary Industries Biosecurity Awards in Wellington on Monday. The award recognises our on-farm biosecurity programme, which includes a course educating our suppliers about biosecurity risks from cow to bottle. As part of our Te Ara Miraka Farming Excellence Programme, Miraka farmers are now financially incentivised to create and implement a biosecurity plan.
The judges said the programme was a “game changing” example of innovation and collaboration to address a major challenge in our biosecurity system.
Invasive species and diseases are some of the biggest risks to New Zealand’s agricultural sector. By understanding biosecurity risks and creating a plan, our farmers are helping to protect our country for the benefit of us all.
